There is a reason why it is called “the great outdoors,” and it isn’t because of a bad John Candy film that is supposed to be a comedy. Every American should experience what his or her country has to offer in abundance and with grace. The landscape is gorgeous, but if you are cooped up in an office building all day, you will never know what exactly you are missing. Those who live in the west take their landscape for granted and try to sell it off to the highest bidder. Before that happens, you need to do some of the things like going through Arches National Monument and white water rafting Bighorn Sheep Canyon.

Connecting with Nature

Part of being an animal is that people need to be able to experience the outdoors in all their glory. Turning off the lights and going into the woods may not be everybody’s idea of a great time, but it is essential if people are going to understand their places in the universe. Without the outdoor experience, people can get caught up in thinking that they are the center of the universe. That way leads to drama, frayed relationships, and heart attacks. It also leads to the denigration of the very nature that people should be connecting with. Sports fields and manicured lawns are not the great outdoors. People need to explore the edges of their beautiful world.

Rafting

White water rafting Bighorn Sheep Canyon is a rush. There is no rafting experience that can come close because each experience is different. You may have ridden on a roller coaster. After the first couple of times, you still get that adrenaline rush, but you know what to expect, so some of the excitement is gone. White water rafting is totally different every time. As Pocahontas sang, “You can’t step in the same river twice.” The same could be said for rafting. It is the environmental conditions that cause it to change. Rainfall, a rock slide, and things that are even more subtle create a new experience each time you are in the raft.
